Isaiah 61 (NIV)

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lordfor the display of his splendor

In the late 70’s, a movie called “Being There”, with Peter Sellers, received high acclaim, telling a story of a man who seemed to make a significant difference/influence in his community by simply “being there”.  At our last gathering, we were blessed to hear the story of one man and his family who, by simply “being there” in NK, have made all the difference in the world for those they live with, work with and care with. By their compassionate obedience to their “anointing”, they remind the people of their “beauty instead of ashes”. By their Devine creativity and resourcefulness, they press “oil” (soybean)with joy and make “garments” with the people to help alleviate their “despair”. By their faithfulness, they “plant” trees to anchor His presence in the land.

Lord, we thank you for this family(and all the other field workers) who continue to show us how to “live” and “be” for the transforming of a land and the opening of the hearts of its people. May your protection and blessings be upon them, always. In Jesus’ Name, A-men.
